Commission praises turnout for farmers market and trunk-or-treat; approves Christmas judging schedule

The Converse Parks and Recreation Commission on Nov. 4 highlighted strong community turnout at recent events and approved a schedule for Christmas-event judging.
Chairwoman Susan Bayona described the trunk-or-treat and attached Movie in the Park as "really impressive," saying, "I really don't think I've ever seen a line so long," and praised the police department and Public Works staff for support. Commissioners said the farmers market also drew a larger crowd than usual, and staff confirmed the upcoming market will be held at City Park on Saturday to coincide with the Veterans Day parade, with hours reported as 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The commission reviewed details for the Christmas event: flyers will be posted beginning Nov. 18 on the city website, library and City Hall; the application deadline is Dec. 9 at 5 p.m.; judging is scheduled for Dec. 13 with winners announced Dec. 14. Commissioner Rochelle South moved that three commission members serve as judges at 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 and that at least two members be present at 10 a.m. on the following Saturday to hand out prizes; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Commissioners discussed minor operational improvements for future events—positioning the movie screen to reduce interference from pavilion lights and coordinating with police on sound—but said the Nov. events were successful overall. The commission closed the item with an agreement to staff the judging and prize distribution as approved.
