House adopts Taiwan resolution and hears Taipei office director general

The Utah House voted to adopt HGR10, a resolution expressing support for Taiwan; the measure passed 49–17 and was transmitted to the Senate. Representative Matt Throckmorton introduced the resolution and said he was "pretty thrilled to have" representatives of Taiwan in the chamber.
The House then resolved into the Committee of the Whole to hear Victor O'Chang, Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco. O'Chang thanked Utah for donations following a September earthquake in Taiwan that killed and injured thousands and highlighted Taiwan's economic ties with Utah, saying Taiwan was the "seventeenth-largest trading partner to The United States" (as described on the floor). He noted that Taiwan's economy was rebounding and emphasized continued cultural and commercial ties between Taiwan and Utah. The Committee of the Whole concluded after a short program and a performance by a visiting musical group.
