House advances $500,000 appropriation to help Utah Botanical Center relocation

The Utah House on Monday advanced an appropriations measure to assist the Utah Botanical Center with relocation costs tied to nearby highway construction.
Representative Dilley, speaking for the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment committee, told members the center needs help meeting city-required improvements related to reconfiguration of Cherry Hill and Highway 89 and asked the House to support $500,000 to assist the centerf9s portion of those costs. "We are in the process of applying for grants," Dilley said, "but we do need this appropriation at this time."
Dilley said the Botanical Center owns about 98 acres and has worked with the Board of Regents and other partners on longer-term funding, but the requested appropriation would address an immediate need created by road developments. The clerk announced the bill passed this body and will be referred to the Senate for further action.
Next steps: HB251 moves to the Senate for consideration; any appropriations ultimately require concurrence and signature before funds are released.
