House approves short survey of school safety practices to identify best practices

Members questioned why the Center for the School of the Future was charged with work and whether the State Board of Education’s existing programs would be included; Bigelow said the state board and other sources may contribute and the effort is intended as a clearinghouse for best practices.
The sponsor said the work will be handled within existing budgets and that the bill had been discussed in the interim. The House approved the bill and it will be referred to the Senate for further action.
What happens next: HB169 will proceed to the Senate, and the state board and the Center for the School of the Future will likely coordinate on the interim report.
