Paradise Green residents ask Stratford council for speed bumps, stop signs and patrols on Charlton Street
Summary
A Stratford resident told the public forum that Charlton Street has become dangerous for children due to speeding, a single stop sign at Allendale, frequent off‑road bikes/ATVs and loud performance mufflers; she urged speed bumps, more stop signs, signage and increased police drive‑throughs.

Jessica Snyder, a Stratford resident, told the public forum that Charlton Street — a pedestrian route for children walking to school and families using Paradise Green — has become increasingly dangerous.
Snyder said motorists sometimes speed between the single stop sign at Allendale and the park, and that off‑road dirt bikes and ATVs are often ridden on the street; she described riders performing wheelies and wearing full ski masks. By her count, about 20 school‑aged children live within view of her yard, she added.
She proposed several remedies: installing speed bumps or humps to slow traffic and deter off‑road vehicles, adding additional stop signs to break motorists’ momentum, posting signs reminding drivers to slow down, asking athletic directors to remind visiting students and teams to respect neighborhood rules when using fields, including parking‑and‑conduct clauses in field rental agreements, and increasing police drive‑throughs along the route.
Snyder cited aftermarket “performance” mufflers as a contributor to noise and public disturbance and said neighbors met to discuss safety concerns and possible solutions. No formal council action or vote was recorded in the public forum on these requests.
