House rejects amendment to fund relocation of Tire Disposal and Recycling Inc.

SALT LAKE CITY — An amendment offered Feb. 26 on the House floor that would have inserted language to provide funding for relocation of Tire Disposal and Recycling Incorporated failed after debate and a voice vote.
Representative Fife moved to amend language (lines 4-45 through 4-48) to insert the words "divided equally" after paragraph b and to add after the word "plant" the phrase "for the relocation of the Tire Disposal and Recycling Incorporated." Fife described the plant as "located in my district ... just a block and a half from my home" and said residents near the facility have experienced noise, vibration and air pollution from tire-grinding machinery. She told the House a pro forma estimate to move the plant was about $1,400,000.
Debate was cut off when members called the previous question on the motion to amend; the speaker then called the vote on the amendment and announced the motion failed.
The underlying Senate bill continued through the remainder of the House calendar; the rejected amendment was not incorporated into the enrolled language.
