Stratford council issues memorial citation for Officer Kenneth S. Cubell Jr.

Mayor Laura R. Hoytik presented a memoriam citation at the July 8 Stratford Town Council meeting honoring Officer Kenneth S. Cubell Jr., who died June 19, 2024. "Therefore, I, the honorable Laura R. Hoytik, mayor of the Town of Stratford, by the virtue of the authority vested in me by the town, do hereby recognize with the utmost honor and respect the life and passing of Kenneth S. Cubell Jr.," Hoytik read during the council's ceremonial presentations.
The citation summarized Cubell's career: born Oct. 16, 1967, he joined the Bridgeport Police Department at age 22, rose to the rank of sergeant after 25 years of service, and later served nine years with the Stratford Police Department. The mayor said Cubell's "love of family, friends, and community are without equal." The Cabell family attended the meeting to receive the citation.
Chief McNeal, who spoke after the citation, said: "I gotta say that it's just an honor to know Ken. He truly was a really good man." McNeal described Cubell as compassionate, always smiling and deeply committed to both police work and family life. The chair briefly recessed the meeting so council members could offer condolences to Cubell's family; the session resumed shortly thereafter.
