Representative Saunders introduced the crew and read the citation that thanked the officers and crew for ‘‘distinctive service’’ and for projecting a positive image of Utah and the nation.
Members recounted personal visits aboard the submarine and described onboard systems and capabilities mentioned by the delegation; several members thanked Commander William Hecht and his family for visiting the Capitol. The proclamation recorded the ship’s commissioning date and cited recent awards including a squadron battle efficiency award and noted the vessel is based in San Diego.
The presentation was ceremonial and the citation was entered into the legislative journal; members expressed appreciation for the crew’s service and for the community organizations that support the ship and its sailors.
