Stratford WPCA authorizes up to $50,000 to replace failed aeration blower motor

The Town of Stratford Water Pollution Control Authority on Aug. 26 approved a request to use up to $50,000 from capital outlay contingency to buy and install a new motor for aeration blower No. 3 at the wastewater plant.
Plant Superintendent Hyde told the board the plant is "doing fabulous" but reported that the motor for aeration blower No. 3 had failed and that analysis showed it was not worth rebuilding. "The motor replacement cost is $42,000," Hyde said, adding additional shipping and rigging costs. Hyde requested authority to use up to $50,000 from account 389386641 (capital outlay contingency) to purchase and install a new motor.
A board member moved to approve the request and another seconded; the board approved the authorization by voice vote. During discussion Hyde clarified warranty expectations: a rebuilt motor would carry a one-year warranty, while a new replacement motor will carry a three-year warranty.
Next steps: Town staff will proceed to purchase and install a replacement motor under the approved contingency authorization and return any procurement details or invoice amounts to the board as required by town procedures.
