Mayor details Complete Streets projects, public-health clinics and Stratford Army Engine Plant redevelopment

The mayor opened her report with transportation and public-health updates, saying Complete Streets Phase 1 bike lanes and boxes between Harvey Place and Barnum Avenue and Greenway Phase 2 from Beacon Point Road to Elm Street were installed with Connecticut Department of Transportation funding. She said the police department is determining red-light camera placement and will submit a plan to DOT for review and approval.
The mayor highlighted public-health outreach: a getvaccinatedct.org campaign to promote school-entry vaccines, a planned October clinic at the Baldwin Center offering the updated Moderna COVID vaccine, and expanded flu/COVID clinic planning for the fall. She said more than 442 residents completed a shortened community assets-and-needs survey that will inform health strategies.
On community programming, the mayor described senior-center month offerings at the Baldwin Center, pop-up farmers markets at senior housing funded in part by CDBG-CV and Stratford Housing Authority support, an ESL course for residents 55 and older, and teen Mental Health First Aid courses funded by a Rotary grant. She also said Stratford hosted a youth roundtable with 59 residents ages 15'25 to inform regional planning for at-risk youth.
On economic development, the mayor said the Stratford Army Engine Plant redevelopment's first phase was approved by zoning with stipulations for demolition, fill and sustained access to nearby businesses and residents; project details and PSR contact information will be posted to the town economic-development pages. She added that Figals and Partners, the architects selected by the council, will present a master-plan update for the Stratford Performing Arts Center and the Benjamin Nichols house renovation.
The mayor also reported a private firm plans to install 11 gas-powered fuel cells at the Contract Plating property to generate electricity and support a decentralized grid; the project is subsidized through MetroCOG with an EPA subgrant and previously approved DECD grants.
The mayor closed by listing recent property conveyances, business openings and upcoming events including the Latin Music Festival on Sept. 15 and other Celebrate Stratford activities.
