Resident presents petition urging Congresswoman DeLauro to seek Medal of Honor for World War II veteran

DeSilio, who identified his address as 65 Ferry Court, said the petition is being circulated by Bob Mastroni, the Veterans Museum and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post. "We are writing to honor Captain James Morgea, a distinguished veteran of the United States Army who served our nation valiantly during World War II," DeSilio said.
DeSilio told the council that Morgea "fought bravely in the Battle of the Bulge, playing a crucial role in saving over 7,000 American lives," and said Morgea had received the Silver Star. Those claims were presented by the petitioner and were not verified or acted on by the council during the meeting.
"We respectfully request that strong consideration be given to awarding Captain Morgea the Medal of Honor," DeSilio said, offering petition sheets and additional blank forms for anyone who wanted to sign or circulate them.
The moderator closed the public forum after DeSilio finished and, seeing no other speakers, returned the meeting to the council's agenda. The petition will be handled outside the council meeting; no council vote or formal action on the petition was recorded in the forum.
