Several Utah House members deliver farewell remarks as session winds down

As floor business wound down, several members of the Utah House used personal-privilege time to offer farewell remarks and reflections on their service.

Representative Adair recalled participating in mock legislatures and reflected on 10 years of service, thanking colleagues across the aisle and staff for their support. Representative Beck described appreciation for the opportunity to serve and urged colleagues to remember government is of, by and for the people. Representative Bradshaw, who said he served 18 years, thanked staff and colleagues and said he would miss the work but not the campaigning. Other members, including Representative Sidewey, Representative Throckmorton, Representative Saunders, Representative Bowman and several others, offered similar expressions of gratitude and memories of their time in the House.

Remarks varied from solemn thanks to light-hearted reflections on campaigning and personal growth. Several speakers said they expected to return in a different capacity or to see colleagues in the future; others indicated they did not plan to seek reelection. The personal-privilege statements occupied an extended portion of the floor time before procedural motions to notify the Senate and the governor that the legislature had completed its business.
