Planner: Stratford’s Greenway and Complete Streets project advances; phase 3 design solicitation to close in January

At the Nov. 19 meeting the planning commission received an update on Greenway and Complete Streets work from Town Planner Sismitha Tada.
Tada said phase 1 improvements in front of Town Hall are complete and phase 2 along Elm Street (in front of the Shakespeare property) has been implemented. Phase 3—planned along Ferry Boulevard—is at approximately 60% draft design; the town has issued a request for consultant proposals that will close in January, after which the town will interview firms and move into design. A joint special committee meeting with the Traffic Authority, Complete Streets and Greenway Committee is scheduled for Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m.; the public may listen but not participate.
Staff described outreach plans to increase bicycling and ridership, including events and partnerships for Bike to Work Month in May and giveaways to encourage safe bicycling. Tada noted some low initial participation at outreach events due to weather and transit cancellations but emphasized a longer‑term goal of boosting comfort and ridership as infrastructure becomes familiar to residents.
No formal actions were taken on the Greenway item at this meeting; staff will proceed with consultant solicitation and design steps.
