The Stratford Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved Dec. 3 a front-setback variance to permit a small porch at 132 White Street on a house the applicant described as built in 1900.
Applicant Ingri Antegua told the board she obtained historic-district approval for the project and said the porch would protect the front door, improve curb appeal and allow for an accessible entry for elderly parents. Commissioners noted the property predates zoning, which the board found satisfies the hardship for a preexisting nonconforming historic structure. Staff confirmed the proposed deck platform would sit about 5.9 feet from the property line, with the bottom step at about 4 feet, and that the new porch would not extend beyond the original footprint in a way that creates additional intrusion.
The board took the petition off the table and voted to approve the variance. The motion was moved and seconded and the roll-call vote was 5–0 in favor. The board recorded no opposition and noted the historic commission’s prior approval was part of the record.
