House approves off‑road vehicle registration requiring visible ID numbers

Representative Goodfellow told the House the number of off‑road vehicles has grown and that federal land managers and landowners are concerned about resource damage caused by a minority of users. ‘‘Senate Bill 166 will require the owner of an off‑road vehicle to affix and display [a] vehicle registration number assigned by the Motor Vehicle Division,’’ he said, adding the department will set rules on size and placement to ‘‘identify those few who are creating problems.’’
The clerk later announced the vote tally: first substitute Senate Bill 166 received 59 yes votes and 13 no votes. The bill was signed and will be returned to the Senate for further action.
