House renews Transportation Planning Task Force and expands membership, 72-0

Supporters said the task force has produced useful interim work for the legislature and that increasing representation—and adding two members overall—would better reflect the House’s share of the legislature and strengthen local input. Representative Lockhart and Representative Becker underscored the scale of transportation needs and the value of continuing the task force’s work to examine revenue options and project prioritization.
An amendment on the floor increased the total number of task force members from 12 to 14 and expanded the number of House appointees from seven to nine; the amendment passed on the floor. Lawmakers highlighted the growing backlog of highway and infrastructure needs and urged the task force to explore revenue options such as registration fees, driver’s license fees, fuel taxes and impact fees.
The bill passed unanimously and will be forwarded to the Senate for consideration.
