In addition to major contested items, the Utah House handled several calendar items with brief presentations and recorded votes on March 1.
Notable items and results
- Senate Bill 194 (sales and use tax exemption for direct‑mail items) was described as a technical fix and passed the House on a recorded vote of 56–0.
- Senate Joint Resolution 17 recognized the Huntsman Cancer Institute as the state's premier cancer institute and passed unanimously, 67–0; sponsors highlighted research, treatment and economic benefits.
- Senate Bill 153 (Tax Reform Task Force) was considered under suspension of the rules and passed 68–0 to form a task force to study sales, income, corporate and severance tax modernization.
- Second Substitute Senate Bill 13 (individual income tax subtraction for certain military income) was read in under suspension with a friendly amendment to make funding one‑time; the panel accepted the amendment and proceeded to passage.
Procedural notes
Several bills were moved under suspension of the rules because of fiscal notes, and sponsors said some measures had been vetted in committee. The clerk announced recorded tallies where appropriate and those measures will be referred to the Senate for further action.
