House backs Utah recreational land exchange resolution, sends measure to Senate

The Utah House voted unanimously to approve a concurrent resolution supporting a proposed land exchange that would transfer about 40,000 acres in the Colorado River Recreation Corridor to the federal government in exchange for roughly 40,000 acres with mineral potential in Grand and Uinta counties.
The Utah House of Representatives on the floor approved Senate Concurrent Resolution 4, a measure expressing support for a proposed land exchange between the state and the federal government.
Representative Mathis, sponsor, told the chamber the proposal would "convey to the federal government about 40,000 acres of land within the scenic Colorado River Recreation Corridor in Grand County and acquire about 40,000 acres of land with mineral development potential in Grand and Uinta Counties." He said both county governments and recreation and environmental stakeholders have expressed support.
Members had no further debate and the House voted with the doors open. The resolution received 72 yes votes, 0 no votes and will be signed by the Speaker and referred to the Senate for the President's signature.
The resolution is nonbinding and expresses legislative support for a land-exchange framework; it does not itself transfer title or set the terms of land management. Local officials and advocacy groups, Mathis said, have already signaled backing for the swap.
The House proceeded to other calendar business after the vote.
