House Swears in Jared Wheeler to Fill District 68 Seat

The Utah House of Representatives on Jan. 17, 2005 administered the oath of office to Jared Wheeler, whom Gov. John M. Huntsman Jr. appointed to fill the District 68 seat vacated by Representative Michael R. Steiler.
A reading clerk read a Jan. 17, 2005 letter from the governor appointing Wheeler "to fill the seat in Legislative District 68, which was recently vacated by Representative Michael R Steiler," and expressing confidence that Wheeler "will serve the citizens in your district with discernment and decorum." The letter was entered into the record by the reading clerk.
Wheeler repeated the oath of office before the House, pledging to "support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this state" and saying, "I will discharge the duties of this my office with fidelity." The presiding officer congratulated Wheeler and welcomed him to the body.
With the oath complete, the presiding officer noted Wheeler would have the opportunity to vote on the next resolution before the House.
The appointment came by gubernatorial communication read into the record; no formal legislative roll-call was required to seat Wheeler once the oath was administered.
