House creates judicial-selection and retention-election task force

Opponents cautioned the task force language was broad enough to reopen selection procedures and could have unforeseen consequences for the judiciary's nomination process. Representative McGee and others asked clarifying questions about the scope and the number of members on the task force; proponents said the revisions increased membership to address stakeholder concerns.
The House approved the second substitute on a recorded vote of 46 yes to 25 no. The bill will be referred back to the Senate for signature of the president.
