Southwest University pledges $500,000 to El Paso ISD Education Foundation for student scholarships

The El Paso ISD Education Foundation announced Nov. 18 that Southwest University will present a $500,000 scholarship gift to the foundation, a pledge foundation leaders called the largest in its history.
Daniel Vasquez, EPISD fund development and Education Foundation officer, introduced Ben Adeola, president of Southwest University, who said the institution was "very honored and very pleased to enter in this partnership" to support underserved students. Russell Booth, director of the Education Foundation, described organizational work since staff changes in 2024 to increase compliance and diversify funding streams; Booth said the foundation raised nearly $200,000 last year and awarded $84,000 in scholarships.
"This is the largest donation that the Ed Foundation has ever received and it's going to open the door to future partnerships that are going to be amazing for our students," Vasquez said. Trustees thanked foundation leaders and noted the foundation’s improved compliance, governance changes and growth in fundraising capacity.
Trustees heard the annual report and the foundation’s updated committee structure, and the board took no formal vote on the announcement; the presentation was accepted as an annual update to the board.
