Redmond police warn residents about phone scam impersonating officers

Chief Devin Lewis told the council the department received numerous reports that day of phone scams where callers represent themselves as a police sergeant and claim there is an urgent legal matter that requires the resident to call back and provide information or payment.
"If you're ever contacted about this, and someone claims to be from the police department or the sheriff's office ... just know we'll never ask for anybody to send money, we would never request money or provide any sort of sensitive information over the phone," Lewis said, urging residents to hang up and call non‑emergency dispatch to verify any contact.
Lewis said the department issued a media release and asked that suspected scam calls be reported to the police department so investigators can track patterns and warn the public.
