Votes at a glance: House passes several bills including athletic commission amendments, retirement reporting and delinquent-tax changes
Summary
On Feb. 27 the Utah House passed multiple bills by recorded vote: second-substitute HB400 (Utah Athletic Commission amendments) 68–0, HJR25 (employment authorization resolution) 70–0, and HB418 (delinquent property tax amendments) 72–0; several other items were returned to Rules for reprioritization.
Several measures moved forward in the Utah House on Feb. 27 with recorded votes and committee actions:
- Second substitute House Bill 400 (Pete Suazo Utah Athletic Commission amendments) passed the House 68–0 and was referred to the Senate. The substitute cleans up commission structure, removes an unused Utah Sports Authority provision, adjusts appointments and licensing rule authority, and addresses administrative and safety provisions for boxing and mixed-martial-arts events.
- House Joint Resolution 25, urging employers to hire only individuals authorized to work in the United States, passed 70–0 and was referred to the Senate.
- House Bill 418 (delinquent property tax amendments) passed the House 72–0; sponsors explained the bill raises delinquency penalties and adjusts interest language to encourage payment of long-overdue property taxes and to address an estimated $86M–$100M in uncollected taxes.
In addition to recorded votes, the House adopted multiple committee reports and then passed a procedural sifting motion returning many third-reading and concurrence-calendar bills to the Rules Committee for prioritization; Rules announced assignments for several bills to standing committees.
These items are now pending in the Senate or will be reprioritized through Rules as specified by the House speaker.
