House unanimously backs resolution urging faster EPA certification of compressed natural gas vehicle conversions

House Concurrent Resolution 1 (HCR1), urging the Environmental Protection Agency to expedite certification for compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle conversions and engine blocks, passed the Utah House 70–0 on Jan. 30.
Representative Draxler, who presented the measure, said rising fuel concerns and experience with conversion bills led him to conclude a federal bottleneck at the EPA was slowing adoption of CNG and conversion kits. "...the federal EPA was really dragging their feet on approving engine blocks that could be approved for natural gas fuel," he said, and the resolution seeks to pressure federal representatives to speed certification and encourage public–private partnerships to expand refueling infrastructure.
Supporters on the floor described the resolution as timely and urged more efficient certification of conversion kits and grouped approval of engine types to reduce duplication. The House recorded a unanimous vote in favor and transmitted the resolution to the Senate for consideration.
The resolution is nonbinding and asks federal actors to act faster; it does not create a state certification program or new state regulatory authority.
