Utah House honors Boy Scouts’ centennial with unanimous resolution

The Utah House of Representatives on Feb. 8 adopted House Concurrent Resolution 5, honoring the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. Representative Bradley Dawe, sponsor of the resolution, introduced numerous Scout leaders, Eagle Scouts and council representatives from across the state and praised scouting’s focus on education, leadership and character.
Dawe read the Scout oath and Scout law to the chamber, noted merit badges and community service, and highlighted scouting’s role in fundraising and relief efforts overseas. Several representatives — including members who are Eagle Scouts — spoke in support of the resolution and thanked Scout volunteers for their service.
Voting opened later in the session and HCR5 passed with a recorded result of 73 yes and 0 no. The resolution will be transmitted to the Senate for further consideration.
