Utah House approves database registration for prescribers and hospital overdose reporting package
Summary
On Jan. 26 the House passed two measures aimed at curbing prescription-drug abuse: HB28 requires prescribers who hold prescribing controlled-substance licenses to register for the state's controlled-substance database (veterinarians exempted by amendment), and a substituted HB35 requires hospitals to report prescription overdoses so DOPL can notify prescribing physicians. Both bills move to the Senate.
The Utah House of Representatives on Jan. 26 approved a pair of bills designed to increase use of the state's controlled-substance database and to inform prescribers when patients suffer prescription-drug overdoses.
Representative Bradley Daw introduced House Bill 28 as a recodification of existing law with a policy change requiring holders of licenses that permit prescribing of controlled substances to register for the controlled-substance database. An amendment adopted on the floor excluded veterinarians from that registration requirement.
