House approves concurrent resolution for new commercial landfill near Fairfield

The Utah House on March 8 approved a concurrent resolution that authorizes final legislative approval for a commercial nonhazardous solid-waste landfill proposed near Fairfield, west of Eagle Mountain.
Representative Wright, the House sponsor, told the chamber the project completed local city and county approvals and had undergone Department of Environmental Quality review and public hearings. He called this vote the final approval step required by statute for a commercial landfill that can accept municipal and nonhazardous individual waste.
Multiple members spoke in support, noting local approval and potential competition benefits for disposal services. Representative Sumption, whose district would include the site, said local permitting remains a check against unwanted projects and that the area’s growth makes disposal services necessary.
The House voted 71–0 in favor. The resolution will be signed by the Speaker Pro Tem and transmitted to the Senate for the President’s signature.
