House honors two Utah Highway Patrol troopers for lifesaving actions

The Utah House recognized Trooper Cameron Carter and Trooper Travis Williams with official citations Monday for separate lifesaving actions while on patrol.
Representative Perry read citations into the record describing the incidents. The citation for Trooper Carter recounts an August incident on I-15 in Utah County when multiple 911 calls reported a wrong-way vehicle; Trooper Carter reportedly positioned his patrol car and took a frontal impact from the wrong-way vehicle, after which the driver was arrested for DUI. The citation credited Trooper Carters quick actions and training with preventing likely serious injuries or fatalities.
Representative Perry also described Trooper Williamss February response on I-80 in Tooele County when he entered icy water to aid occupants of a minivan that had gone off an on-ramp and become nearly submerged. The citation notes Williams entered the van, assisted a woman who could not climb out because of numb extremities, and helped bring three women safely to shore; Williams refused a blanket and instead used it to cover the victims until emergency responders arrived.
Representative Perry said the Legislature expresses "deep, heartfelt gratitude" to Trooper Carter and Trooper Williams for their courage, devotion and service and recognized their families in the gallery.
The citations were entered into the House record and the chamber acknowledged the troopers and their families.
