House convenes, introduces 2011 session interns and staff; recesses for lunch

S1: The Utah House convened and the speaker called the chamber to order. A Senate delegation was present; an unidentified senator addressed the House saying, “We are organized the Senate is organized and ready to do business.”

On the floor, an unidentified member moved an informal but recorded motion "that we cease to saunter," which the House adopted by voice vote.

Representative Newbold told members that a joint committee had met with the lieutenant governor; the lieutenant governor "wishes us well" and the governor is scheduled to deliver the State of the State address "on Wednesday, January 26, at 06:30PM in these chambers," a time announced on the record. The transcript records that time in the clerk's reading; the House will host the address in the chamber on that date.

The speaker introduced the 2011 session interns and asked each to raise a hand so members could see who they are. The speaker also introduced session employees and specialists by name, including journal clerk Janice Glatt; docket clerk Rebecca Bateman; voting machine and calendar specialist Barbara Hilbert; recorder Linda McDonald; video specialist Jan Phillips; and other reception, security, IT and page staff.

Later a member announced a Rotunda exhibit described in the oral record as the "John and Browning exhibit," mentioned a "free candy store" available in the majority leader’s office, and reminded members that the State of the Judiciary would be addressed that afternoon. The House then recessed by voice vote until 2:15 p.m.

The session’s introductions put staff and interns on the official record and provided members and the public with logistical reminders for the day’s schedule.
