House adjourns to reconvene Oct. 17; members will not receive special-session pay for interim days

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah House of Representatives adjourned on Oct. 4, 2011 after approving a motion to reconvene on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. The motion, offered by Representative Deane on the floor, included language that members would not receive special-session pay for the days between the adjournment and the Oct. 17 reconvening.
Speaking to colleagues, Representative Deane said the interim would allow the public time to review the maps and materials considered in the session. "We've been through a long day ... I think it's important to point out something. We reviewed a lot of maps but the process is what's important," Deane said, and announced his motion that the body adjourn and reconvene on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. The motion was put to a voice vote and the Speaker announced it passed.
The House also announced the next Redistricting Committee hearing would be held on Friday at 9 a.m. The session record shows the body agreed not to receive special-session pay for the intervening days; the motion passed and the House adjourned.
