House passes bill to place signage honoring fallen Utah highway patrol troopers

The Utah House passed House Bill 182 to place highway signage honoring fallen Utah Highway Patrol troopers whose roadside crosses were removed following a court decision.
Representative Wilson, sponsor of HB 182, introduced family members of fallen troopers and said the signs will reaffirm public gratitude while reminding motorists to drive safely. “These signs … will serve as a memorial to the officers that have lost their lives,” he said.
Members described personal connections to troopers and to roadside fatality incidents; Representative Greenwood, a former highway-patrol employee, recalled attending the funeral of Trooper Lynn Pearson and thanked families for their service. Multiple members noted that the Highway Patrol had removed 14 crosses across the state and that the signs are intended to replace roadside memorials in a way consistent with legal guidance.
The House voted on final passage and approved HB 182, 70–0. The bill will be transmitted to the Senate for consideration.
