SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah House of Representatives convened for the opening of its 2012 general session on Jan. 23, swore in newly appointed members, adopted organizational rules and sent a large first batch of bills to committee before recessing until the afternoon.
Speaker Rebecca Lockhart opened the session by thanking student participants and describing priorities she said should guide the 45-day session: education, support for research and business, concern for homeless and vulnerable youth, and fiscal restraint. "I can promise that the next 45 days will be both fulfilling and frustrating," Lockhart said in her opening remarks.
