House passes $139.8M in ongoing education increases in HB 2

He noted several specific items and how they would be distributed, including $7.5 million ongoing for extended-day kindergarten and $4 million for the Beverly Taylor Sorensen Elementary Arts Learning Program.
Members asked for clarification on the persistence of one-time items and how pending fiscal-note requests from the Senate would be handled. Representative Brown explained that fiscal-note funding flowing from Senate bills would be handled separately (bill of bills) and that this package represents a significant increase to public education in recent years.
After brief discussion, conflict declarations were entered by several members with personal ties to education (noted for the House journal). The bill passed the House 73–0 and will be transmitted to the Senate.
