House approves measure to add voting representation on UTA board for outlying counties

Representative Nelson presented House Bill 144 as an effort to provide voting representation on the Utah Transit Authority board of trustees for counties whose territory is not entirely included within the UTA district. "House Bill 144 is an effort to provide voting representation on the UTA board of trustees for counties whose county is not included entirely within the UTA district," Nelson said, noting the change targets two outlying counties.
Representative Menlove offered Amendment 1 to add voting members representing rural counties as UTA expands service to western and northern areas; the sponsor welcomed the amendment. After a brief waiver of summation and a voice vote on the amendment, the House approved the amended bill. House Bill 144 passed by voice tally recorded as 70 yes, 0 no and will be transmitted to the Senate.
Supporters said the amendment increases representation for communities newly served by UTA and was agreed to by the UTA board and local councils during review.
