SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah House of Representatives adjourned its March 12, 2014, session after members agreed to continue work overnight on a set of fiscal-note bills and return at 8:00 a.m. the next morning.
Representative Dean moved that the House adjourn until 8 a.m. the following day. Representative D. explained the rationale: "we have been working on our fiscal note bills for the last few hours ... we have found that there are some amendments that need to be made ... We have met with our colleagues in the Senate ... and we're finding that there are several amendments that are necessary to make these fiscal notes match the appropriation ... we're gonna have them worked on through the night and tomorrow at 8AM we're gonna have all the amendments ready for those fiscal note bills so they'll match the appropriations," he said.
Before the adjournment, the House also handled a short procedural motion. Representative D. earlier moved language described in the record as "that we cease to swagger." The presiding officer processed the motion, the House voted by voice and the motion passed; the presiding officer stated, "The house will cease to swagger."
The presiding officer put the adjournment motion to a voice vote; it passed and the House adjourned. The Speaker reminded members to return at 8:00 a.m. to continue work on the fiscal-note amendments.
