On Jan. 20 the Utah Senate read a communication from the governor appointing Representative Mike Dimitrick to fill the vacancy caused by Senator Omar B. Bunnell's resignation. After the communication was read, Dimitrick came forward, repeated the oath and was sworn in as senator for District 27 (Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties). He addressed the Senate, expressed regret about Senator Bunnell's inability to finish his term, said he would like to follow Bunnell's example, described his prior legislative experience in the House and said he had asked a House colleague to sponsor a bill to transfer his seniority to the Senate.
Colleagues welcomed Senator Dimitrick; several made personal remarks about his golfing ability and prior service. The Senate clerk recorded the swearing and the chamber recognized him formally. The appointment will be recorded and Senator Dimitrick will assume committee assignments noted on the floor.
