SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Senate concluded its Jan. 13 session after passing several routine and technical measures and taking procedural steps on bills requiring further study.
Senate Bill 10: The chamber advanced SB10 (a Sunset Act amendment consolidating interim sunsets and removing a nonprofit, the Utah Beef Council, from the Sunset Act because it is not a state agency). The president announced the result: "Senate Bill 10 shows 24 ayes, no nays, 5 being absent," and the bill was referred to the House for further action.
Senate Bill 52 (reviser statute): Senator Petersen introduced the annual reviser bill — a comprehensive technical package to correct cross‑references, punctuation and other drafting issues. Because the reviser bill spans hundreds of pages and requires careful review, sponsors distributed copies to leadership and asked members for time to examine the amendments; senators voice‑voted to circle SB52 so members can review the materials.
Procedural actions: The Senate adopted routine journal approval, accepted various rules resolutions and announcements, and agreed to remove the circle from both SB52 and SB11 later in the day so those bills can proceed once follow‑up answers are supplied. The Senate adjourned to reconvene at 10 a.m. the following day.
Selected quote: "Senate Bill 10 shows 24 ayes, no nays, 5 being absent," the president announced after the roll call on the third reading of SB10.
Status: SB10 passed third reading and is referred to the House; SB11 was amended and then circled for further information; SB52 was amended as a technical reviser and was temporarily circled for review.
