Senate honors Utah State University president with concurrent resolution

The Utah Senate adopted SCR 5/FCR 5 on Jan. 15, a concurrent resolution honoring Stanford Cazier for 13 years of service as president of Utah State University.
Senator Lyle Hilliard introduced the resolution and summarized Cazier's record, citing growth in student enrollment, expanded research grants and a successful centennial fundraising effort that raised more than $41 million for the university. "President Cazier has provided leadership in seeking a new level of excellence in teaching and learning at Utah State University," the resolution text recites.
Several senators rose to thank and congratulate the university president and his wife, Shirley. The Senate briefly resolved into a Committee of the Whole to permit President Cazier to address the body. In remarks the president called service "a true privilege" and praised the university’s faculty and staff for the institution’s progress.
Under suspension of rules the Senate read the resolution for second and third time and adopted FCR 5 by roll call (27 ayes, 0 nays, 2 absent); the resolution will be transmitted for enrollment and copies sent to the university’s governing bodies.
What happens next: The enrolled resolution will be delivered as a formal expression of the Legislature’s appreciation and mailed to the Utah State Board of Regents and other university offices.
