Senate advances multiple committee reports, places dozens of bills on second-reading and consent calendars

The Utah State Senate adopted a series of committee reports and placed multiple bills from both chambers on the second-reading calendar during its Feb. 19, 1993 floor session. John Holmgren, identified in committee reports as Senate Rules Chair, asked that SB 200, SB 201 and SB 171 be printed and assigned to standing committees; the Senate approved the recommendation by voice vote and the president assigned specific House bills to Business & Labor, Education, Energy/Natural Resources/Agriculture, Health & Environment and Judiciary committees.

Chief Clerk Carol Peterson read a set of House transmittals and consent-calendar items for the president’s signature, including several resolutions and revised Senate bills. Standing committee chairs including David L. Watson (Business, Labor and Economic Development) and David Steele (Transportation and Public Safety) reported favorable recommendations on bills such as SB 160, SB 161, SB 280 and HB 98 and recommended placement on the consent calendar; the Senate adopted those reports by voice vote.

The floor also approved motions to return certain bills to the Rules Committee (for example, SB 81 and HB 19 were returned to rules) and to move items from the red calendar to the second-reading calendar. Committee reports adopted on the floor were entered for enrolling and transmission to the governor when required.

The actions taken on committee reports set the agenda for detailed debate and votes later in the week and advanced a number of bills for expedited consideration on the consent calendar.
