Senate advances SB18 seeking $250,000 to finalize Hiram Dam planning on the Bear River

Holmgren said the Legislature previously set aside $2,000,000 for Bear River planning. He told colleagues that core sampling and prior research show raising Hiram Dam is likely feasible and that the project could create an estimated 20,000–25,000 additional acre-feet of water. The bill requests an additional $250,000 to complete final reports and preliminary design work so a more accurate cost estimate can be produced before any construction decision.
Senator Watson asked about the funding source; senators were told the requested funds would come from the previously established restricted account rather than the general fund. After questions were answered, the clerk recorded 27 ayes and no nays, with two senators absent, and placed SB18 on the third-reading calendar.
