Senate adopts SR1 after friendly amendment to rules

The Utah State Senate adopted Senate Rules Resolution 1 on January 19, 1993, after members approved a friendly amendment to the proposed changes. Presiding officers read the amendment — which replaced certain committee-direction phrasing and added clarifying language about tabling — and senators agreed to the edit before voting.
Senators debated minor and a couple of technical amendments to the journal from the first day, and the committee on revisions noted the lieutenant governor’s office would clarify election-term language for two senators. After the friendly amendment to SR1 was presented and discussion closed, the presiding officer called the question. The clerk announced SR1 carried with 26 ayes; because SR1 is a Senate rules resolution it does not go to the House.
The action settles internal rules language changes for the session; the Senate moved on to committee reports and the regular calendar following adoption.
