Senate Confirms Two Judicial Appointments Transmitted by Governor

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Senate on Jan. 19 received a gubernatorial communication transmitting judicial nominations and voted to advise and consent to both nominees.
A letter from Gov. Norman H. Bangerter (read on the floor) transmitted the appointments of Lyle Robert Anderson to the Seventh Judicial District to replace a retiring judge and Tyrone E. Medley to the Third Judicial District to replace a retiring judge, and asked the Senate to take action so the nominees would have constitutional authority to assume duties.
Members of the Senate Judiciary Confirmation Committee reported they had met and voted to recommend confirmation of both Lyle Anderson and Tyrone E. Medley. The Senate then took a roll-call vote on the motion to advise and consent; the clerk recorded 24 ayes, no nays, and five being absent, and the motion passed. The presiding officer said the governor would be advised the nominees could assume their duties upon the affirmative advice and consent.
The Senate complimented the nominees and welcomed family and guests who attended the session.
