The Utah State Senate on Jan. 21 adopted SCR 1, a concurrent resolution honoring the late John A. Dixon, M.D., for a career that spanned surgery, medical education and research in laser surgery.
The resolution recited Dixon’s service as a practitioner and educator — including time as dean of the University of Utah School of Medicine and leadership in creating McKay‑Dee Hospital — and noted his international recognition in laser surgery research. Several senators spoke in tribute, recalling personal connections and Dixon’s community service.
Senator Wynne Richards moved that all senators be listed as sponsors and then asked that the resolution be read for second and third time under suspension of the rules. The clerk reported the final vote as 27 ayes, no nays, 2 absent; SCR 1 passed and the Senate arranged to send copies of the resolution to Dixon’s surviving family.
