The Utah State Senate convened for the 1994 general session and carried several organizational motions on opening day, including confirmation of officers and committee appointments.
Senator Lane Beatty moved that the officers of the 1993 session serve as officers for 1994; the motion listing President Arnold Christiansen, Majority Leader Lane Beatty, Majority Whip Craig A. Peterson, Minority Leader Scott N. Howell and Minority Whip Mike Dimitri passed on a voice vote. The president delivered opening remarks and outlined general priorities for the coming 45-day session.
The Senate appointed joint and standing committees and directed that the committee lists be recorded in the Senate Journal. A motion was passed to adopt the rules of the 1993 session on a temporary basis until current-session rules are finalized.
Because notification to the House was delayed, the Senate recessed until 2:00 p.m.; the motion to recess was made by Senator Beatty and carried. On reconvening the afternoon session, senators reported that the House had been notified and introduced the full Senate staff for the journal record.
