Senate pauses to honor fallen deputy Michael Scott Welker with commemorative resolution

Senator Mantis (floor presenter) said the resolution ‘‘offers our respect, sympathy, and condolences to all who share the loss of this very fine man, Michael Scott Welker.’’ The body stood and applauded as the resolution was presented to Deputy Welker’s family and attending law-enforcement officials. Senators described the moment as solemn and appropriate and thanked the family and officers for attending.
The resolution will be entered into the legislative record and presented to the family. No policy measure or appropriation was attached to the commemorative action; it was ceremonial recognition of a fallen officer’s service.
