Senate reads in several bills and assigns them to committees; some await fiscal notes

During the Jan. 18 session the secretary read a bill-assignment report and announced numerous newly printed and assigned Senate bills and resolutions. Examples included Senate Bill 33 (transient vendors act repeal); SB 35 (Credit Services Organizations); SB 39 (Telephone Fraud Prevention); SB 38 (tax review commission study of telecommunications taxation); SB 62 (uniform transfer-on-death security registration); and other bills assigned to committees such as Energy, Natural Resources and Agriculture and Judiciary.
Floor discussion noted some bills were printed and assigned before fiscal notes were complete. Leadership explained that several smaller bills had been sent to committees to keep committees ready to do business, and staff would follow up to secure fiscal notes where needed. Members who were seeking specific bills that did not appear on the reading list were told to consult staff (referred to as 'Bill' in the floor exchanges) to locate the missing items.
Next steps: Committees will receive bills and fiscal notes as they become available; members were asked to check committee assignments and attend promptly to allow committee business to proceed.
