The Utah Senate heard from Daniel Sprague, executive director of the Council of State Governments (CSG), during a Committee of the Whole session. Sprague described CSG’s mission to champion high-performing states and regional competitiveness, outlined a Western-region emphasis and said the organization aims to return a greater share of dues to western states (currently 54%, with a proposed move toward 60%).
Sprague praised Utah’s engagement with CSG and highlighted the Western Legislative Conference’s recent activities in the state. He described a search for a new executive director for the Western region and urged continued legislative engagement to ensure western interests are represented in federal funding formulas and policy discussions.
Senators thanked Sprague; Senator Howell introduced the motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole for the presentation and noted Senate President Beatty’s involvement with CSG governance.
