Board celebrates student artist and Betsy Band; director highlights TSBA convention and RCAP ribbon cutting

The Elizabethton Board of Education recognized student Hannah Daniels for artwork selected as the district holiday card and celebrated the Elizabethton ("Betsy") Band for winning a fourth consecutive state championship.

Miss Turbyfield and other staff introduced Hannah and described her artistic accomplishments and leadership in theater and speech and debate. A teacher present said of Daniels: "She is an outstanding, very talented, well rounded student in the visual and performing arts." The board presented a printed copy of the card and invited photographs.

Band director Mr. Valentine summarized a season of travel and competition, saying the seniors and leadership "responded" to adverse conditions and that the band achieved a historic fourth straight state championship. Members of the band leadership and seniors joined the board for recognition and photographs.

In his director's update, Richard Van Huss thanked the board for attending the Tennessee School Boards Association convention and highlighted sessions and statewide programs in which the district participates, including the Ballad Health Academy (a nursing program enabling students to pursue LPN credentials before graduation). Van Huss congratulated Dr. John Mitton for being selected as the Tennessee Association of Secondary School Principals' East Grand Division principal of the year and said Mitton will have an opportunity to compete at the national level in Washington, D.C.

Van Huss also announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Dave Bridal Center for Athletic Performance (RCAP) scheduled "tomorrow at 01:00," and encouraged board members and the public to attend.
