Senate unveils Utah Olympic 2002 license plate; $15 from each purchase to support children’s Olympic programs

Frank Jocklick, president of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, praised children’s participation in the recent Nagano Olympics and said engaging youth in the lead up to the 2002 Games will build long‑term Olympic values in Utah. Senate sponsors described the plate as a way for residents to support youth programs tied to the Games.
Senator Howell and others explained the vehicle registration‑plate program: each plate will cost $22 with a $22 annual renewal fee. Of each purchase, $15 will be directed to an Olympics Fund for Children to support tickets, participation, and related outreach; the remaining $7 will cover production and administrative expenses. Senate leaders invited reporters to a press debriefing in Room 223 for additional details following the session.
