Senate reads bill-assignment list, greets visiting Algerian delegation and adjourns until 10 a.m. tomorrow

The Senate president read a bill assignment list dated Feb. 16, 1998, assigning several senate and house bills (with fiscal notes) to committee consideration.
Among the items read were bills referred to Business, Labor and Economic Development on topics including motor vehicle repair and insurance deductibles (Sen. Howell) and a food handler licensing measure (Sen. Blackham); other assignments included a government–Olympics relationship bill (Sen. Marine) and a task force on local airport funding (Sen. Hilliard). House bills addressing unemployment insurance, rural enterprise zones, higher-education tuition waivers and other matters were also assigned to committees.
Senator Suazo used a point of personal privilege to introduce a visiting delegation of Algerian legislators who are touring state institutions to learn how state governments operate. "I just wanted to take a moment to introduce to our senate body a delegation of Algerian legislators," Suazo said, noting the visitors represent six major parties in Algeria and that they had met with Senator Hatch.
Senators welcomed the visitors and were invited to a luncheon in the State Auditorium sponsored by the Sutherland Institute later that day. With no other announcements, the Senate voted to adjourn until 10 a.m. the next morning.
